9 bolt rearend?

I am getting ready to throw some 3.73 gears in a rearend that I have had for a year or two. Unfortunately, when I looked at it I was confused it was not a ten bolt it was a 9 bolt..... I believe it cam out of an 88GTA.... it is supposedly a posi disc brake 2.73 rearend. What is the deal?

¿¿Deal?? I know nothing about this "deal" you speak of.

Ummmm..... it's a 9-bolt. A completely different model of rear end, made by a different mfr, from the 10-bolt. Absolutely nothing whatsoever inside it will interchange with the 10-bolt.

If you want to upgrade its gears to 3.anything, you'll need a different carrier, since the 2.77 is a 2-series carrier, and 3.27 and up use a 3-series carrier.

not a direct swap. There is a tech article that goes over the swap in the tech article section on the main page.
