is this the differential oil fill hole?
for some odd reason i cant find any bolt on my differential front or back that i can take off and fill it up through. i have a 9 bolt borg warner. the only thing i have is a rubber plug on the front of the the differential cover. its really low though, i can only fill the differential to slightly under half of its capacity. is this how much oil its suppost to have? or is this plug for something else? its to high to be a drain plug and seems to low to be a fill plug, what do you guys think?

To "Drain" the differential, you pull the cover off. To "Fill" the differential, you fill it up through the hole where the rubber plug is. The differential is FULL when the fluid level is at the bottom of the fill hole.

thats what ive done, but i just get the "no" feeling driveing around with it so low on fluid, hell, the **** barely touches the berrings on the axel its so low, and only less than half the gears are submerged
whats teh deal with this GM additive i keep reading about on the other threads? do i really need it? i put in valvoline's "dura guard" brand wich doesnt seem to contain anything special in it. i didnt want to fork out 12 dollars (canadian) per bottle for the differential because i have to change my slightly bent axel anyway in the future. but i didnt hear any "groaning or chattering" when cornering like some guys have been claiming happens without the "special additive" what do you think?
i also have an interesting idea/question. a while ago i found an earth magnet (really powerfull small magnet) this thing is so powerfull it can suck the particles of metal out of my drained gear oil. i was thinking about sticking it on the bottom of my differential and off to the side a bit(away from the big gear) to attract all the particles to one spot away from the gear. does this sound like a good idea? or will it magnatize the whole differential and **** something up? its a pretty powerfull little magnet and i guarentee it wont fall off ever if i stick it on the outside

Trust me, going down the road, those gears are getting smothered in gear oil.
Most differentials come with a magnent glued to the inside of the rear cover.

hmm.... well mine didnt, should i stick this magnet to the outside of the differential cover then? there was some nice silver goo comeing out of my differential when i was doing the oil change, and that stuff is probly not good for the berrings, but this magnet is so powerfull that it seems like it could disrupt the gear rotation, slightly causeing more strain on it and possibly shortening its life. have you heard anything bad about valvolines duraguard brand? everyone else recomends the 3-times more expensive supersyn brand wich contains GM's special anti friction additive
