700R4 Doesn't Like Park

My 700R4 doesn't like Park. When I put it in park the car still rolls. I have to slam it in to park to get it to take. Any suggestions? Do I just need to get it rebuilt?

replace/adjust your shifter cable...

look under the car at the tranny pan on the drivers side... youll see a little bracket with a cable coming down and then parralell with the ground and it attaches to a little lever on the transmisison... check and see if it has any play in it back and forth... mine did because the plastic thing on it was broken where it bolts onto the lever....

try loosening that nut where it holds the cable onto that lever, put the car all the way in park on the shifter, and push the lever on the transmission all the way forward, then put the nut back on and tighten it... if it still wont go into park, go to the chevy dealer and get a new cable... not hard to install, they cost about 40$. and my shifter works like brand new now
