technical clutch engaugement level prob on t56
technical clutch engaugement level prob on t56
i have narrowed down the possibilitys. I have a pre 85 motor and a small weight 1/4" thick behind the flywheel to balance it since its a 383 and a t56 with one of those swap flywheels that are retardedly heavy and thick. my clutch catches really close to the top and it is not because it is worn. I think it is because since the t56 clutch works backwards the little weight i am using it throwing off the engaugement level, anybody ever go through this? i am prolly gonna shave off the thickness of my weight from the flywheel and lighten it at the same time since its 40lbs, any thoughts?
where did you get the flywheel? I'm looking for one to use my T56 on a 400 block.
Right now its on my '90 LB9, I used the LT1 flywheel and it engages really high too. The clutch is barely worn. Part of it is cause the pedal goes down too far, I can hear the clutch fork hitting if I press it down all the way. I'm going to put a stop under it so it won't do that.

Don't feel bad...my std. run of the mill 350 w/T56 engages close to the top. It is a used clutch, but from what I can gather it is fairly common on a thirdgen. Mine starts engaging lower but doesn't fully engage til' towards the top. Probably about an inch or 2 from the top.
I think it's just something we have to live with for some reason.

The hydros are supposed to be self-adjusting to compensate for clutch wear, so milling the flywheel may not do any good.
I have a SPEC stage 3 clutch and Centerforce 2-piece RMS flywheel on the front of my T-56, and it catches about 1.5" from the top of the pedal throw.

If you want, I will give you the part number (Summit sells it too but they always seem to be on back order)
Price around $360 but the quality is amazing!
HTH
Also, my clutch does the same thing I think it's the nature of the beast (pull-style clutch)
When I installed the master cylinder I must have put it too high (late model Montes never had a manual tranny so I used the hole for the cruise control) because my clutch was slipping! I loosened the 2 hold-down bolts and no more clutch slip! Man, those 'disconnect' in a fraction of an inch of pedal movement!!
