engine swap-no power to trans

92 rs trans=4l60(700r4) engine swap= 305 to 383 carb
had stock trans beefed up and mild tc to boot,
elated to get engine running, quite stout to add, go to put into reverse no kickdown nothing, also nothing for any gear. trans unlocks driveshaft rear wheels are free car just rolls. appears that torque converter is not engaging with trans. I assume it must be something electrical with the ecm after looking thru the electrical schematics and determining that the ecm does allow the trans solenoid to engage the tc, ??????????. However, I did install a toggle switch to the aldl wires to lock up the tc as described in the article section, and it still would not go into gear in both the off and on position. Any insight would be appreciated, afraid to take to trans shop, since eliminating so many of the ecm sensors, etc...

sounds like you did not install the torque convertor the right way on the input shaft on the trany.you have to fill the convertor with tranny fluid then put on the tranny shaft then turn it very slowely until it go's in all the way. of corse if that happend well then you have some work ahead of you.
this just my experience and even may not be your problem. just my .02

That sounds like the case to me. The torque converter has to engage 3 different things...the inner input shaft, the outer input shaft, and the front pump. It's fairly common for someone to put it in and only catch the first 2. The converter will look like it's all the way back, but in reality it's not engaging the front pump. When you torque the tranny to the back of the engine, it will force the converter the rest of the way into the trans, and usually destroy the pump drive doing it.

You're gonna have to pull the trans and see if the pump drive is crushed. Just look down beside the input shaft with a flashlight...you should see 2 square-ish plastic tabs sticking out across from each other. If they're cracked or crushed or broken you need a new font pump.

would not enough fluid cause it to not engage? I was using chiltons capacity chart that states the trans holds 6.4 pints, yes pints. I have a plus 2 quart pan, so i put in about 5 1/2 quarts. I found out that the trans holds 11 quarts dry, plus the two for the pan i am 7 quarts short. I ran the fresh engine for about 15 minutes and tried to put into gear only for a few seconds. Does this sound logical and is my tranny shot from running it without enough fluid?

Yeah no fluid will definitely keep it from going into gear. It's also a good way to overheat and burn up a torque converter......fill it up and hope it works is all I can tell you.
