700r4 won't shift

I have a 92 RS and it won't shift out of first gear. It goes into reverse and drive fine but it won't get out of first it just keeps reving up. it takes off like normal too. I checked the fluid and the throtle linkage and the kickdown cable and they seem fine. Also my speedometer stop working so i don't know if that would have anything to do with that or not. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks

If this happened all at once, it is the governor gear, broken or stripped. Replace the gear, and your shifts should return.

The governor is under the rounded cover, drivers side toward rear of trans. Pry/pop cover off and slide governor out. Gear is on the end of it.
