Well I've got a 2500 stall in my Z,which really stalls at 2300 or so. It is a lockup converter, so I didnt see much change as far as gas mileage goes. My trans is a 700R4, and 3.23 gears. I dont know what trans you have, but with that set up gas mileage wasnt a problem. The motor was mainly stock. Some RR, set of Edel. headers,3'' flowme. Car is tore down for motor upgrades now, but I am considering replacing the torque converter with a non lock up style. Its great to have lock up for the freeway, but for as much drag racing as I like to do.....The last couple of times I raced it I unplugged the lock up seleniod and ran a few 1/10's quicker. I would like to run 3.73's when its back up, 'cause I will not drive as much any more. any I've reambled enough.
P.S. I'm also running a full manual valve body, and might switch to a full manual reverse vb.

i have a carbd 406 with built 194 heads 280 cam 10.5:1 compression air gap intake 750 holley and hooker headers it is backed by a th 400 with a 2800-3200 bnm stall i have 342 gears so obiously my gas milage is horrible but thats not what i built the car for i ran it and had a problem with fuel delivery and could only take it to 3000 rpm i coasted to an 18 @ 55 mph with a 2.2 60' the difference from the 2500 to the 2800 wont make ur gas milage much worse but i dont think ur going to hit mid 13s either its not that much of a difference .......cant remeber what gears u have if u dont already have gears that would be an easy way to get the mid 13s u hope for also street slicks will help u in ur 60' s obviously

i need slicks and spool with 373s cant get traction

If you ran a few tenths quicker, with the wire to the TCC lockup disconnected, you don't need a non-lockup TC, you need to have the computer recalibrated that controls lockup, so that you won't have this problem. Going to a non-lockup TC is not going to do much, except empty your wallet, unless this a "drag race" only setup.

sorry about that i got 2500 from the other guys reply well u will see some change in fuel milage but not too much the 2800 will definetly help in 1/4 mile time over stock but since the converter will be stalling at a higher rpm where u have more power than traction might be more of a problem. mid thirteens will be easily accoplished with the 2800 and traction.

Don't know what I got with a stock converter but I did get 20 mpg on the highway going along at 65 mph with the 3000 stall. Of course though, the car only runs 15.21 @ 90 had a nice 60' of 2.19 though on the stock sized tires hehe 215/65/15.

Going to a non lockup not going to do much? I think so, it will stop trying to lock up @ WOT. That will help. And its going to cost more? I dont know where the "PRO" tranny mech's get their converters. But around here non lock up is cheaper.
