What is causing my drivetrain to shake so much??
Hey guys, just got a quick question, i have a t5 when i take off from a dead stop, my whole drivetrain shakes, my stick wobbles a lot, and it gets worse if i ride the clutch, it will also shake if i floor it in a low rpm, i am completely unable to ride my clutch out of 1st w/o it shaking, it seems like the clutch is having a hard time holding, but it is only 1 month old, any ideas? any help is appreciated, thanks alot

Did it start as soon as the clutch was replaced, or later?
Sounds like the shock springs in the disk hub are either wrong for your application, or broken.

See if this works...

The disk is on the right. It shows 5 coil springs. Those are what I referred to as shock springs.

So you are saying that those might be worn out already? I mean i bought a borg and warner clutch about a month and a half ago, direct replacement, i wouldnt see how those could be the problem, does my problem sound like it DOES have to do with those? I mean when i take off out of first, the clutch grabs but it just ahs a hard time putting the power to the ground, the whole car shakes, its TERRIBLE when i have to take off from a dead stop at an expressway off-ramp when its an incline, help me out again, thanks alot

I guess I missed the part where it seems the clutch has a hard time holding.
Sounds like the pressure plate isn't pressing the disk hard enough, either because of an adjustment problem, setup problem, or something plain just isn't right. The chattering is probably related to those springs, but not caused by them.

Sounds like you got a poor-quality clutch, installed it wrong (probably by not having the flywheel turned or by not replacing the pilot bushing/bearing), or both. Those are the usual causes of clutch chatter.

sounds like ur clutch is shuddering due to being glazed/broken in improperly. was the flywheel resurfaced before the new clutch was put in? if it was resurfaced did u break it in easy? for like 500 miles ur supposed to take it nice and easy with it. im not sure how u want to fix it. i figured out a way that fixed mine, when i went to the track i slipped the **** out of it and it deglazed, it hasnt worked this smooth for a lonnggg time! my clutch tho is not new but did this since new because i didnt break it in correctly.

i dont exactly know what you mean by that, we did RESURFACE it, if thats what it happens to mean, i dunno i am not an expert at clutch/tranny operation, but yea we took off the flywheel and resurfaced it

I read an article in a recent magazine ( I think Car Craft) that talks about how many people do not dial in the belhousing. Seems that more than less, that shims are needed to get the input shaft to line up PERFECTLY with the crank and pilot bushing. When I wanted to order a roller PB from summit, the sales guy told me not to get it unless I was going to dial in the b.housing. Mine rattles a bit sometimes out of the hole, and more anytime that I downshift into a gear when the RPM are too high to do so.

If re-installing the original, check the alignment pins on the block - if they are still there and in good shape, and holes in the bellhousing aren't worn oblong or anything, it should still retain the factory alignment and be fine. At least that's what G Force told me when I asked the same question.
Another cause for "chatter" could be burnt oil on the clutch flywheel surface. How's the rear seal?? Nonetheless, sounds like you'll have to pull it apart again...
