Need some help/advise please.

Here's the deal. The transmission in the 76 had been acting funny. Come to a stop press clutch, drop in gear and whrrrrrrrrrrr, grrWhwhwhwhwhwhooowhhoooowoooooo (mostly grWhHoOOOo) , with clutch depressed fully. If I let off the clutch to the point where it starts to grab the sound goes away and stays away until the next stop. The best I can describe it to is a severly trashed throwout bearing or a broken bearing retainer, which has been the case in the past. When it's making the noise I can hit all 3 gears even reverse clutch preed in and the sound wont go away so I dident think the tranny went bad. I ordered a new clutch (warrenty of course) and a new bearing retainer totaly expecting to see somthing trashed, pulled it down and nothing is visibly wrong. The clutch despite all the pounding looks new still and the white lettering is still visible. The bearing retainer is fine and the TO bearing was in good shape also. On the ground I flipped through gears and rotated the input shaft all gears rotated smoothly and very little slop in the shaft. Went back to inspecting the 2 year old clutch fork for scraping damage and none.

I'm going insane here any help would be apperciated.
