aluminum driveshaft

ok, I got a 305 right now and its got some pretty decent mods on it, such as headers exhaust gears and it runs good. i plan on dropping in a 350 at some point. maybe even super charging it later.

well my question is.....i know there is a point where you need a heavy duty drive shaft because the aluminum wont cut it. would a 350 tpi with bolt on mods be alright for an aluminum drive shaft or will i need a stronger one? and what about if i added a super charger?

i got the stock drive shaft right now and I want it to go.

thanks

I have my stock Al drive shaft behind my 383. All I did was go to solid u joints. I'll let you know if it breaks.

I've never compared the weights between the 2. I don't think it's much more then 10#'s.

The stock 2.5 steel is 17 pounds and the 1LE 2.75 aluminum is 12 pounds.

your taking rotational mass off of the drivetrain which is a huge gain overall..

should be go to 400-450 rear wheel area. after that i'd want steel. if you get one for a deal go for it, otherwise there are alot of other things to do with $100.

a 350 tpi with bolt on mods
TPI will protect your drive shaft from ever seeing too much stress, seeing as how that DS works fine in the LS1 cars. I don't think you'll have too much to worry about.
