TV cable adjustment on LG4
Can anyone please tell me in detail how to adjust the TV cable (for the 700r4 auto. tranny) on a 1984 LG4 305 engine?
The tech article covers the v6 which doesn't look anything like mine, and my Haynes manual shows how to adjust the TPI unit which has a release plate that you have to push down while pulling the cable in. Well I can't push anything down on mine, that peice is not there. I tried everything I could logically think of but got nowhere.
I need as detailed of an explanation as I can get, photos would be even better. My car shifts at like 1300 rpm under normal throttle and 3000 at WOT which is quite annoying. Oh and I tried searching but came up with nothing.
Any and all help would be great!!!!
Thanks everyone.

It is either your TV cable or more likely your governor, the governor controls the shifting rpm and they are designed to fail eventually because they have a plastic gear at the end of them which links with the speedo. gear. I bet your governor is bad, TV cables don't come out of adjustment unless you play with them. The governor is on the drivers' side of the trans. you will see a large black metal dome that is circle shaped. Use a punch (its like a chisel but is flat at the bottom) and a hammer and hit it around all sides that you can get to, (I can only hit it from the bottom and on one side but i did get it off) until it comes off. Trans fluid will go all over the place so be ready for that and let the car completely cool off for like 3-4 hours so you won't get burned. You will probably have to lower the crossmember too. It might be difficult to get it out just because the floor board is in the way, but it can be done. Be VERY careful when you pull it out. (I broke mine getting it out). Don't worry about any debris that is left behind its not in a place that it can do any damage. The plastic gear will be stripped or worn if the governor is bad. So that is what to look for.

ok I may try that if it comes down to it, I just thought the TV cable could be done easily. I adjusted one in a TPI car in like 3 minutes, and I though mine was the same, apparently not. Yet another reason why I should get a 350 tpi.....
