Regarding options for rear end.

Reason for post : upgrading rear suspension; good time to modify rear end.
Haves: open rear, crappy 2.73's, drums!!!!!!
Wants : posi, 3.23 gears and 1LE/PBR brakes.

Here's my deal. I'm getting all my rear suspension parts (panhard, lca's, bushings, springs & shocks) and I figured since the rear will be out, it would be a good time to do what I've wanted to on the rear end. I realize this topic has obviously been covered but, my problem is that since I've spent all this money on suspension parts, I haven't got much left over for the rear. My question is, would I be better off searching high and low for a 90-92 rear with all I want, and hoping it doesnt quit on me, or waiting and saving money until I can get the brake upgrade from andyz28 ($700+?) along with richmond gears and an slp posi unit?

I would wait and build it, rather than looking for a stock one that is really weak. Also, I would reccomend a PowerTrax Locker since they're almost impossible to break rather than the SLP take out unit.

Lockers are to streetable from what I understand.

How much power are you making?

I went ahead and got a SLP posi unit and Im getting some 3.73s. I'm gonna see how it holds up. I think it will be fine unless I get some big sticky tires. SLP posi is definetly the cheap way to go.

Lockers are fine on the street as long as you don't mind a little clicking going around sharp turns, but if you're not putting out a bunch of power (like over 400hp) the SLP unit should be ok.

Not even close!!! I'm still bone stock under the hood, only have headers, cat and cat back. I got a 305 TBI in there now, but who knows in the future. Getting the suspension/brakes done before anything else. 300hp is prolly the most Ill ever hope for, just want the car to look its best and perform its best. I've seen the SLP mentioned here frequently for posi units and it isn't too expensive, besides, no one likes leaving only one tire mark.

with 400hp goint hrough a 10 bolt the last thing id be worried about is the posi. they tend to grenade pretty easy.

I still haven't decided what I want for the rear but I found a local that has a fourth gen rear available with posi, disc and a good gear ratio, but it's off a trans am. By just bolting in a fourth gen rear I would be able to run 17" wheels right, I was wondering though, whether or not 4th gen chevy f-body wheels would have the same specs as 4th gen pontiac wheels. I've seen wheels on ebay in some places that some things are different and wouldn't fit both. Here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2438471033 and here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2438176059 thanks, efrain.
