Just bought a car, differential died 8 hrs later

I bought a 1984 Camaro Z28 H.O yesterday (and i thought it ran great) Soo this is what happened. I was at a light, tried to put my car into first then i heard a loud popping sound. Now no matter what gear the car is in, it wont move (acts like its in nuetral) I put the car in 1st, looked underneath the car and the driveshaft is spinning. My girlfriends dad said my differential is blown. How much does this cost to fix/replace, and how much more to put in LSD. I have a 1984 Z28 H.O. I also have a (non functional) 1995 Camaro V6. (anyone want any 4th gen parts?) Can i swap the differentials, or would that not work?

cheapest and easiest thing to do is swap rears if you broke the one you have. should be able to find one from 100 to 200 pretty easy

Yep, check around, you can find them in junk yards easy. If you want, look for like a 9 bolt rear end and that would last you for quite a while. You can swap a 4th gen rear end into a 3rd gen, but then the wheel offsets are different and I believe the speedo stuff is different too.

You could just swap the whole rear with the 95. Probably has higher gear ratio to boot! The only thing will be that your rear tires will stick out 2" more. You could just put the 95 rear wheels on it, or all 4 and get spacers for the front.

Either go boneyard hunting for a diffrential or read the tech article and swap the 4th gen rear in.

You could rebuild the diffrential you have but that will cost $.
