Transmission Linkage Cable Too Short?

I recently switched out my transmission in my 85 V6 700R4 Auto Trans Camaro with a good used 86 700R4 auto trans. Everything went smooth except now the linkage cable will barely line up with the linkage control on the tranny. When I adjust it in neutral, it barely makes it on to the linkage connector.

So when I put it in park, it doesn't seem the have enough throw to put it up into PARK on the transmission. I can manually do it from underneath and it locks into park properly. This cable is the original as far as I know. It just seems like it is too short to push it into park.....HELP!

John
