Wheel adapter problems...

Engine: 305 TPI in stock trim
Transmission: T-5 w/ Hurst B/P shifter
Wheel adapter problems...
Maybe this isn't the right board to post this - admin, feel free to move it.
Wondering if anyone has heard of or had problems with properly installed wheel adapters?
Any bearing problems? Problems of any kind - loosening lugs, etc?
Interested in a set of wheels requiring 2" adapters - seems like it might strain the bearings alot.....
Any input about adapters, please post - I've never used them and I'm interested to hear what some of the draw-backs might be.

I have 2" in the back and 1'1/2" in the front, I think. I got them so I could put some ZO6 wheels on my camaro. As far as I know they work fine. purchased them from www.fbodymotorsports.com

They are pretty nice. it has been at least 1000 miles. pretty recent. anyone know how to ad a pic to my sig? I have a pic of my RS w/the rims.

Black Bird - it's encouraging that you've got that kind of mileage on them with no probs.
camaro05 - your ride is sick with those rims!!! They go great with the gray paint color - thumbs up man! Oh, yeah - what size are your rims/treads?
Now I just got to figure out what will go with my dark red metallic paint...... haven't decided if chrome or silver is going to work or not cause it has gold in the pinstriping - what do you think?

The Rims are AFS Corvette ZO6 wheels 18X9.5 tires are 235/40/ZR18 but the tires are just big enough for the rims if you got the same I would go with bigger tires, thanks for the compliment. I will try to get a pic of them shined up and in the sun.

I have wheel spacers on all of my vehicles:
1992 Camaro RS - on for a few hundred miles
2002 Grand Prix GTP - on for a few thousand miles
2002 Explorer LTD - on for 30,000 miles
No problems with any of them...Just make sure you try to buy spacers that are "lug centric", instead of "hub centric". Lug centric centers the wheel better than hub centric and almost eliminates any out-of-balance issues...

The wheel bearing will not get extra load on them as long as you keep the centerline of the wheel in the same location. Using the billet adapters, you're just changing the offset/backspacing of the rim, but the actual physical location of where it sits in the fender (and relative to the bearings) is the same as your OEM 16x8's. Take a read at http://www.skulte.com/adapterfaq.html which might help clarify things a bit. I tend to over engineer everything we build & fabricate, so there will be no problems down the road. So far I've put the adapters through snapped axles, torn driveshafts, bent torque arms, and this is just on our Z28tt (3700 lb twin turbo Camaro, used w/ race slicks for road racing mostly). They've been on some serious rock crawlers w/ 38" tires, to duallys, and all the way down to little quads. If it could break, it would've a long time ago!
Proper installation is important. I'd suggest re-torquing the adapters after the first few miles, as the lugnuts take a "seat" sometimes, and mate tighter to the adapter. I also recommend using anti-seize on the studs (hub and adapter), and you should have a lifetime of no problems. I hope this helps!
