Installing ProBuilt tranny and ACT torque converter, question

I have decided to install my ProBuilt Street/Strip tranny and ACT 9.5" 2400 stall torque converter during thanksgiving break. I have recently done alot of reading on tranny swaps on the boards and have a pretty good idea of how to do everything but i have one question. With the ACT torque converter i was told that i need to use shims between the flexplate and the torque converter so that the converter doesnt sit to far up on the input shaft because it could damage the front pump. The clearance needs to be between .090" and .125" but im not sure exactly what i am measure....the clearance between what???. Im sure once i get under the car i would be able to figure it out but i might as well ask now so that i am ready for everything once the swap starts.
THANKS, i cant wait to get this stuff in!!!!!

Maybe the clearance between the flexplate and the little blocks on the TC where the bolts go in. The place where they mean to shim it.

well, that is where you are suppose to add shims, but i know the measurement is taken somewhere else.

I think that you need to install the converter in as far as it will go and then measure the clearance between the converter pads and the flexplate. If the clearance is greater than .125", calculate how much you need for a shim to get clearance of .125" from the shim to the converter.

Say for example you have .200" clearance between the flexplate and converter pads with the converter all the way in. You would need .075" of something between the flexplate and the converter to make sure that the converter is no more than .125" up on the input shaft.

You take this measurement between the flexplate and the torque converter at the bolt pad. It should measure .090 - .125". If it more you need to reduce this clearance by adding a washer at the three corners. All three washers (if needed) must be "exact" same in thickness (+ or - .001"), to get this clearance within spec. If you make this too tight it will destroy the unit, too loose and you can break the rotor assembly in the front pump. If you need help call me at 800 7763288.

I lucked out. I just checked mine and I have exactly 1/8'' of clearance. I placed the bolt in the hole and counted the threads. Looks like its going to work.
