Rear end??

Alright, I am going to be needing rearend work and I don't really think spending the money on my stocker as money well spent. Maybe I am wrong.

I want some of you to tell me how the aftermarket rears are working out. Also what rears. Moser, Strange, any others...

My combo is not overpower right now, but I expect it to be pretty powerful once I get the blower. In the mean time, I figure whats the point of spending like a $1000 or more and then in a year or so, have to throw it away to make way for something stronger. I don't mind spending money now and not having to worry about it later. BTW, my rear is a stock, open diff, 3.42.

I quickly looked at Spohn's site and priced out a Moser 12, came to under $2200 with C-clip eliminators and all the other stuff I would want.

Anywhere to look at for good deals. I know Ebay is popular, but I am very skeptical. Probably wouldn't buy from someone there, but may be worth looking into.

Thanks and sorry for the length...

If your going to order a moser rear, deal directly with moser, as the prices are exactly the same and you will be dealing with the people at moser engineering themselves.

I have a moser 12 bolt, with richmond 4.10 gears, 33 spline axles, an eaton posi, the support cover, and ford 9" housing ends with press on bearings.....i reccomend getting that setup, as c clip eliminators leak like a ****, and have been known to eat bearings.

i ended up paying about 2400 bucks complete and shipped i think....and 2500 total with all the brake stuff i needed.

if you use the ford housing ends, you need to get the disc brake setup off of a 9 bolt rear....the easiest way to do that is just to go to a junkyard and grab everything, including the backing plates.

cause theres no point in spending 2000 bucks on a rear end and having a band aid part like c-clip eliminators....just have a rear end that is built to be c-clip free

rearend

I bought mine from Moser as well for the same reasons 383 mentioned.
I also went with the Ford ends. That setup looks to be 100% leakproof. As for brakes I used LT1 discs in place of drums. You should be able to find brake components in hardly used condition vs 9bolt stuff.

if you want to you can get all the 9 bolt stuff brand new as well, with the exception of the backing plates....you can get the backing plates for the PBR calipers brand new but they are discontinued and have to be ordered.

i took all the stuff from the boneyard, and bought new calipers, just returned the ones i got for cores. bought new rotors, pads e brake cables, etc.

cost me about 100 bucks all together

Thanks for the info...

Yeah, I guess I wrote c clip eliminator but I meant the pressed axle like the Ford uses. Good tip though.

I did not know that dealing with Moser direct would be the same price, I kinda figured it would be more expensive. I will call them first now.

I have read here that some people don't think highly of Moser's assembly techniques or tolerances. What do you two think?

And for the brakes I was thinking of late model Camaro discs or contacting Baer and seeing what they have to offer.

Thanks..

The rearend has been under the car for about six months now. I've put on maybe 500 miles. It doesn't leak or make any unusual noise (3.73s). Over the winter I intend to change the fluid so at that point I will be able to take a look inside. I can then check the gear pattern and backlash. There is one minor fault though. I noticed the bracket that supports the pass. side spring isn't level. It is tipped down maybe 5-10 degrees. Certainly this isn't critical, it wasn't worth calling them or even fixing it myself. Hopefully, there won't be other things that show up later. At this point I would still reccommend a Moser 12 bolt.

it comes with the differential assembled and installed, but the axles are not, and you need to get the bearings pressed on...

do a search on moser 12 bolts, i think i did an entire thread about it with the installation
