t-5 to 700r4 swap
I always hear of people wanting to go from auto to manual but not much about the opposite. I have a friend who is willing to trade me a 700r4 from a 91 camaro with a trans go shift kit already installed for my T5 set up. I drag race a lot and I also drive in traffic so I'd like to swap for the auto. What exactly do I need from his car to do the swap? And what kind of stall should I use on my setup for a street/strip car?

well you need the tranny and fly wheel, also need the cable to the shifter. your going to have a hole in the floor where the stick was, dont know if you can weld but your going to need to weld some sheet metal over that so you can bolt the shifter up. id go wit han after market because the pan on the floor has like a plate the shifter bolts to to give it the prober hight, take your buddies counsole lid off and look how the shifter goes you'll see what im talking about. the tranny is real easy to bolt up to the block. i took mine off and on like 5 times in one day. not sure how your going to do the wiring though. i forget how it is in a t-5 setup, id have to look at my GTA and get back to you on that. as for a converter, id go with something like 2000+ depending on your motor. im still stuck with a stock one after 10k into the car...missed all the little stuff when i was building. a friend of mine had a saturday night special in his GTA with a turbo 350 trans and that thing moved, topped out at like 100 but it got there real quick.

So the 700r4 in the later 3rd gens was computer controlled? Is that what you mean by wiring? I thought the only wiring involved would be for a torque converter lockup switch and and the speedo?

the wires im talking about are for the lights and safty switch. it will look like a plug, bolted on the right side of the shifter in the auto. i have no idea how the manual wiring is set up. take a peek at your buddies. everything is easier to figure out once you get started.
