Is my flywheel bad?
Ok. I've been searching for a couple hours and I haven't found my answer...
I'd like to know what sounds might indicate a bad flywheel. I've got a grinding sound goin' on.
Sound happens when the car's warm and slow or stopped.
note: sorry if you've read about this in another section of this board. I've been troubleshooting and it's time to ask the people in the tranny/drivetrain section.

sounds like you may have a bad flex plate, even if you said fly wheel and list atuomatic as your trans. pull the inspection cover and see if you can find any cracks. even if you don't doesn't mean much ,some are hard to see. as much as i'm sure you don't want to drop the trans i ithnk i would, you sure don't want the flex plate coming apart on you

Ok. You can probably tell I don't know much about cars. Though, I'm learning very quickly under the guidence of my wife, father, father-in-law and shop manual. I'm telling you, wrecking my car was the best thing that ever happened to it (sick sense of humor). My 'Bird is in better shape under the hood than it has been in years. The outside looks really bad, though.
Thanks for the advice. Anyone else?
I'm 450 miles from home right now. I don't have ramps or a full set of tools right now.

Ya I would listen to Ede. You will have to drop the tranny or pull the motor to check it for sure most likely. I have similar problem but mine is a extremely loud clicking. This weekend I m going to do one or the other to confirm the problem and fix it. I m leaning more towards pulling the motor and putting a crate back in cause its rough shape. In the end its pain.
