T5 mainshafts

I recently picked up a good T5 for my 84 Z28. The only thing wrong with the trans is the main shaft. Even at my dealership employee price this thing is through the roof. Does anyone know who makes these things aftermarket or a high turnover rebuild shop that sells them used cheap? One last thing, who sells rebuild kits (blocker rings, bearings, all the little plastic pieces)?

What's wrong with the shaft? Mine was chewed to **** thanks to a ****ty mechanic who installed the trans misaligned. I had a driveline place add metal and regrind it. Came out like new. That was a long time ago and no problems since. If it's bent, then that's another story...

Wow...it's rare to hear of the mainshaft being bad unless someone messed it up; it's usually the countergear shaft or the input shaft that give out.

I'll second that....I know input shafts are notorious due to the front bearing wearing out. Only time I've heard of the countergear shaft going out is after the trans was beat on mercessily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, (sure someone will) but isn't the mainshafts the same between the NWC 6 cylinder trans, and NWC V8 trannys?? You can find those pretty cheap and do a transplant maybe...

Or run low on fluid and chewed up the bearing surface on the shaft */me raises hand*

Dimensionally they are the same...the only difference would be the gear ratios; easily checked by counting the teeth on each gear.
Second to last time I rebuilt mine, I put all the V8 parts into a V6 case, reasoning that it hadn't seen the abuse that my V8 case had.

Sorry guys, it was definitely my input shaft that got chewed to high hell...not the main shaft.

Dunno, but any decent tranny shop could get you a quote for one. They'll probably ask for a 'tooth count' of the transfer gear, because there's likely a couple of different ones. I bought a new countershaft for mine just over three years ago, and it ran about $200 Cdn (about $130 US at the time).
