ok i know there was a recall for the 700r4 in the mid years of the thirdgen....the problem was that there was pre-mature 3rd gear falure. well tonight it happened, i was driving and the car went to shift into 3rd and the rpms went to 7,000.......no i have no third gear...i have the rebuild kit for that problem but there is another problem. i have herd that even if the 3rd gear goes up that the overdrive should still kick in since it is electronical. well my over drive doesnt kick in even if im going 65 mph. does anyone have any idea what might be up with this trans. i was thinking just the typical gear going up, but then i got to thinking that maybe not enough transmission fluid is getting to where its supposed to be. do you think it would be better off rebuilding the auto, or do ya think it will be just as much of a pain in the butt to put in a t-5. i have the doner car for the t-5

give me some thoughts as to what is wrong with the 700R4 and then ur oppinion if it would be easier to rebuild that or put in a t-5

If you do not have 3rd gear (3-4 clutch pack) you will not have fourth without the 3-4 clutch pack. 4th gear is the 2-4 band applying, while the 3-4 clutch pack is on. Time for a rebuild.

 

i would not use the T-5 but a T-56 if you want a stick. as mentioned by the tranny expert it's toast.

 

i have a stock 305 and the only thing i plan on doing to it is cam, gears, new exhaust,and possibly new heads, wouldnt a t-5 hold up against that............i know its weak but yea..
