torque converter stall spedd???

ok, so let me please know the signifagance of the stall speed on torque converters and how does it improve performance?

I have a 2400 stall speed on my torque converter and wonder if the 2400 stall speed means i should rev up to 2400 rpms to launch it or what? i hear it makes the shifts firmer and such. but what is the mess of rotars and such that will improve my performance? how does it do so and do i need to actually hold an rpm to launch better and get those great 60' times or does it make no difference other then shifting?
