The wrong torque converter?

Okay, the person I bought the car from said it has a stall on it and it doesn't stall. It feels like a stock stall but, when driving in OD the RPM's stay where they are supposed to, shift down to 3rd and no engine brake and the RPM's drop to 1,000 give it some gas and the RPM's climb up and then catches and she takes off. So I'm wondering if a non lockup converter has been installed instead of a lockup conveter or if that matters. Could something be broke?

The overrun clutch and or overrun sprag is gone. This will cause a no-braking action.

I had the same problem with my sprag, like 4 or 5 time in a row. Mental note for the future, do not down shift at high rpm's, sprag goes BOOM.
