ok so i turned on my 87 IROC, popped it into reverse then into drive again once i was out of my friends drive way and then floored it. now the car wont shift out of first after i let off the gas. if i blew the tranny wouldnt the car not move at all? it parks, reverses fine but wont get out of first in drive. what could be wrong??

 

my brothers did that, he ended up gettin it rebuilt

 

If everything was ok before, and you have reverse & first only, it is most likely the governor gear broken/stripped. Replace it.

 

any range on how much that may cost?

 

i think they're only like 10-20 bucks from gm and easy to replace
