Pinion Pin Problem
Pinion Pin Problem
I'm having trouble getting the pinion pin out of my 12 bolt. After I take out the bolt that holds it in, it will only move an 1/8 inch and no more. I have tried taping on it with brass and it won't budge any. Does anyone have any ideas to get it out.

If the single bolt that holds the pin in place is out, and the pin's still stuck, get a brass punch, line it up, and give it one good hit. It's just stuck, nothing else in there that can really hold it in place.

did the whole pin come out?
it is about 2 1/2 inches long, with with threads for about 1/2 in. right under the hex, then a smooth pin

Are you sure that the bolt didn't break partway inside the pin? This is very common, in fact Snap On makes a tool specifically to remove broken cross bolts. The bolt should have about a 2" long nipple on the end that actually locks the cross pin in place. It will be round on the end. If it isn't or part of the bolt is missing that's your problem.
