whats the trans?

i have a 89 rs with a 2.8 v6 but i dont know what the trans is. my haynes manual says everything after 84 is a 700r4 if its auto is that true and how can i find out?

Car: '89 Formula 350 & '86 Z28

Engine: L98 & 355ci

Transmission: 700r4 in both

if its the original auto, its a 700r4. It has a different bolt pattern than the typical v8 700r4s

by getting a differant transmission, a 60* v6 has a differant bolt pattern than a SBC or 90*v6
