How many HP will my 10 bolt take?

I own a 1986 trans am with a 1993 Z28 rear end(it takes very little modification) and am planning on putting about 490hp and 460 ftlb torque under the hood. I need some technical info on these rear ends and maybe some past experiences from you guys. I know my trans will take it it is a turbo 350 with a 3000 stall converter. I dont want to break my rear end.

depends on how you apply the power and what steps you take to strengthen the rear

This will be used for some drag racing with slicks and the 3000 stall converter with shift kit. Basiclly I want to keep the rear end stock. I will be using 3.42 ratio.

No way! With those things applied to that STOCK 10 bolt,
you will blow it up! You will have to modify the whole
entire rear end just to hold up that kind of abuse!
It's possible to have that 10 bolt rear hold up to the high 11's,
but that is a BIG risk!

You can get custom alloy 28 spline axles made for it
( they are made of stronger material and are thicker!),
a solid bearing spacer ( your crush collar will not hold
up!), a heavy duty diff. ( SLP for $500!) and an experianced
tech with rear end skills to put it all together. Make
sure you use Synthetic rear oil and a high quality rebuild
kit ( GM, Richmond, etc.) and the most definate rear end
mod...the support cover! A MUST with over 350hp
at the rear wheels. I have completely modified my 10 bolt
and it should hold up to 350 rear wheel hp. That's all
I need. You however, should get a Chevy 12 bolt from
Spohn.net!

You trans. should not be problem, as long as it is built
to withstand the abuse. I would have picked a TH400
myself. Stronger than the TH350.

You should check in the Tech articles for more info on
modifying your 10 bolt.

I am going to attempt to launch my 550 estimated hp car on slicks with a 3200 stall with a support cover, solid pinion spacer, and welded axle tubes. I dont have the money for the 12 bolt I want so I will let you know how much it takes before it blows, lol.
