4th gen. rear end
Ok, ok, yes I know that a fourth gen rear end can be swaped in place of a third gen with only the addition of a few inches wheel offset. Now this question isn't only drivetrain, it is about rear disk as well. I just want to make sure I understand everything before I have the chance to mess it up
If I were to swap a 3.42 posi disk rear end in place of my crap 2.73 open drum rear what all is involved?
I know that it is wider. I know that the gearing for my speedometer needs to be changed. And I know that I need a proportioning valve to increase pressure to the rear breaks.
Do I need a new master cylinder? Do I need new break lines? Does the torque arm still bolt up correctlly?
Any help and or suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim

No you can reuse your stock one
Do I need new break lines?
No but you may need to stretch them a bit to fit. However you will need a new E-brake cable I think. I cannot remeber off the top of my head. Can't remeber if my buddy is getting one because his was broken or because of his new rear.

Yes sir it does. The two rear ends aisde frim the width are identical. When you put the two side by side they look the exact same.

Thanks for the help and advice guys! I had tracktion problems in the past, so the listed upgrades have been mostly completed already. Lakewood control arms, and poly bushings. The springs aren't that old. And I have an aluminum drive shaft, larger swaybar from the factory ws6 package.
Thanks again,
Jim
