A Powertrax Lock Right will cost about $330 (just a set of new guts for a stock open case, but acts like a locker once installed). A real deal Detroit is over $550.

I got my Powertrax for like $330 I think it was a couple years ago, but was recently pricing them in Summit and such and they seemed to be running around $400 now, perhaps they have a newer more expensive model or something... Another plus with these is you can install them yourself, no gear setup, no special tools, etc.

I went with the powertrax in my one car for the same reason as Ray did. You can install it in your driveway with no special tools or setup required in about an hour. It's a piece of cake. It's also reassuring to hear other people on here say how indestructable they are since I'm running a lot more horsepower in that car and mainly built it to go fast in a straight line. If your car is fairly close to stock and you use it mostly for a daily driver, I'd still have to recommend a clutch style posi for it instead though. I'm sure the day will come when the posi burns up in my 89, and at that point in time, I might try out a zexel-torsen unit in it, or maybe a rebuildable eaton unit if I happen to come across a good deal for one somewhere down the road.

The Powertrax needs to be installed in an opne rear end. The posi cases are different.

They are still about $330 from Randy's Ring & Pinion. Summit's rear end stuff is overpriced.

What do you mean the posi cases are different?

The posi cases are different than an open rear, as the powertrax locker replaces the spider gears in the open diff.

So the powertrax locker actually goes inside the case of the old open differential? Do you just gut the old one or something? I thought it replaced the entires posi unit as a whole.

yes, the lock right they are talkin about goes in pretty easy, as easy as taking out the center pin and c-clips, then the spider gears come out pretty easy, and the case stays in, so there is no re-setup of the gears or diff.
