2 series diff housing vs 3 series...

What's the difference in the housings? Can I use a 2 series housing, with a 3 series gear/carrier/axles, etc?

Go right ahead. The only difference between a 2-series and 3-series is the thickness of the flange on the differential carrier to which the ring gear bolts to. The 2-series has a thinner flange to space the ring gear farther away from the pinion centerline to allow room for the greater number of teeth of the pinion gear.

On second thought, the flange may be the same thickness, just located farther from the pinion centerline.

So are you saying I *can* use a 3 series carrier/gears, in a 2 series housing?

Yep, 2 of my three rear ends were 2 series with a 3 series gear. My posi was a 2 series and the first rear I used factory 3.42 so I had to buy a spacer to make it work. If your using new cogs then your all set since the new ring gear will already be thicker to compensate for the 2/3 series dilema
