T5 inspection question

Transmission: T56

Axle/Gears: 4.10

T5 inspection question

I just bougth a T5 out of a car from a junkyard and wanted to check what it looks like inside. I tried, but the cover on the top seems to be connected to the shifter somehow because when I move the shifter with that cover loose, the shifter can move the cover. Is there any way I can check out the guts?

You must remove the speedometer driven gear, knock down the roll pin in the shifter lever block, unbolt the tailhousing, pull tailhousing back, and then you can lift the cover off including the shift rail.
