Storing Transmissions
I would like to know the best way to store a transmission, weither manual or stick, so as not to have problems when I go to use it a year later. There hasn't seemed to be any troubles just having them lay there, but I want to know the "best" way.
Thanks guys

Wrap it in cosmoline and put in in a box. I've seen WWII era parts packed like this that look brand new. Don't know where you can get cosmoline though...

Well....I don't mind if it doesn't last 50 years
But I guess that it would be great if it did! I just want to make sure that the inside doesn't rot out. So far, all I do is wrap the end with a sandwich bag and zip tie it on there. Then I make sure that it is full of fluid, so there's no "dry rot".
I guess it isn't such a big deal with manuals because they use gear oil, but I want to make sure that the auto's stay good.

The biggest enemy of anything is storgage is moisture. Stick a desicant bag or two in the platic bags you use over the ends of the trans. This should keep any moisture out.
