VSS question??
VSS question??
I had to install a new speedo cable in my car the other day and encountered a problem. The housing that the cable screws into o the side of the tranny cracked. So now I need a new one. I believe that it is the VSS but since I have a mechanical speedo I am not sure. I can't seem to find this part anywhere. It is a big black plastic thing that goes into the side of the transmission. Does anyone know where to get one??? I need it fast!! Thanks a lot.

You are probably talking about the sleeve that holds the speedo driven gear. You have a cable to the transmission, correct, not a wire and plug. If it the speedo cable you do not have a VSS on the end of the transmission. The sleeves are common and you shouldbe able to put any gm t5 sleeve in its place.

Yea it is just a big plastic piece with a hole in it for the speedo gear to stick out and engage the cable. The cable screws onto the side. I went to GM and they did not even know what it was. It would be nice if I could just find a new one and buy it from somewhere.

They are discontinued from GM. Send me an email; I have a few and I'll sell one. How many teeth are on the driven gear please?
