Automatic Overdrive
Hey guys, I have an 83 Z-28 that has a 700R4 Automatic Overdrive tranny. It only has one "D" selector which is both drive and overdrive I guess. Then it goes into the options of 3rd gear 2nd gear or 1st gear. I really dont like my tranny automatically going into overdrive all the time. Would it be a problem if sometimes I just rode around town in 3rd gear? Is that going to cause faster wear on my tranny?

It is not normally recommended to drive around with it in third gear all the time and your transmission doesn't normally shift into overdrive until the car reaches about 45 MPH.

Earyl cars use the 200C I believe. Though the 700R4 was certainly available in '84, even if it wasn't available in the F-car platform. I'm not 100% sure.
