something is going wrong with tranny....

ok well until i swap in my T56 i still need to drive my car and its current Auto tranny is acting strange. i have 4.10 gears if this has anything to do with it.

there could be a few possibilities as to why i know of

1. Auto Zone told me to use Dexron III tranny fluid, so i did to complete it and after i realized my dipstick said Dexron II only?

2. the night that all this started happening i put the car into reverse and did not come to a complete stop when i shifted into drive. i was not moving much but enough so the rear wheels would hop or grind(made a reasonably loud noise)
after all this my tranny started shifting from 1st-2nd at about 1500RPM higher and every day i drive the car it gets worse. today i was 2500RPM higher than normal and once it shifted to 2nd it immediately shifted into 3rd. also now when i am almost at a complete stop it will finally shift down to 1st.
this is all under normal easy driving. when i lay on it, the car seems to shift like it did before.

anyone got a clue? should i get my tranny flushed and put in all new DexronII?

Dextron III has superceeded Dextron II. I'd be suprised if you can even buy Dextron II anymore. That's definitely not your problem.

What year is the trans? How many miles? When was the last time it was serviced?

If the WOT shifts are normal then I'd say that the trans isn't slipping. Have you gone through the automatic TV cable adjustment? This could cause a problem like this.

I have a CAN of K-Mart Dexron II... lol for nostalgic purposes.. I'd follow TKO's suggestions, verify proper throttle valve operation, then maybe a filter/fluid change (or did you do that already).. I've gotten into the practice of retorqueing the valve body every once in a while (the spec is like 8 ft-lbs) after I had one start cross-leaking because it came loose (causing random weirdness)... These are the first steps, then go from there depending on how everything looks...

actually im not so sure anymore that my tranny shifts fine a WOT cause i just got home and floored it and once it shifted from 1st to 2nd....it went quicker than normal into 3rd? its as if my car gets up to the speed it should be in inorder to shift 2nd to 3rd when its in 1st cause my 2nd gear is almost nothing.

1991 camaro 350 1067xxK miles the tranny was rebuilt at one point in its life w/ shift kit i have the reciepts but it doesnt say how many miles or anything like that. i just bought this car about a month ago. and like i said when the weather gets good a T56 is goin in but right now i cant afford for that thing to get blown especially since it got worse since this morning 500RPM more than what i last stated its shifting at in 1st....

one other thing....

like i said 1st, this all started happening right after my little mistake of not being in a complete stop when shifting into reverse from drive or from reverse to drive i dont remember exactly as all i was concerned about at the time was..why is my tranns shifting so high now? and it almost felt like the same thing that happened to my 87 Iroc that i just sold as is where the tranny would not shift out of 1st gear but instead it shifts at high RPM and it gets higher everytime i drive the damn thing.

If it shifts badly at WOT, or won't shift at WOT at all the trans is slipping and needs to be rebuilt. Usually the 3-4 clutch pack goes first, and then the others start to follow suite until you are left with a trans than only has 1st and reverse.

well as an update....my tranny is BLOWN!!!...i think....
now it wont shift out of first at all, BUT every once in a while if i manually shift from "D with circle around it" to D at high RPM, the car will shift into 2nd but not for long then get into 3rd and thats what gear i stay in....whats up with this.
