need some help.
ok im taking my tranny to the shop to be rebuilt and i was going to take it out my self and i had a book that had step by step how to do it and it said that i needed to take out the rear springs because when i disconnect the tq arm it causes the rear end to twist and can cause damage to the car. is there any other way? or should i just let the shop do it all. im getting it rebuilt with shift kit and vette servo and kevlar lacd bands and a racing cluch pack and a manual/auto valve body and some other stuff and im getting it all for 800.00. if anyone has any better way to take it out or if i should just let them do it that would help thanks.
I think they are referring to the upward twist of the torque arm whn you disconnect the front mount. All we ever did was brace it with a block or something to keep it from going up into the tunnel. I have heard of people really screwing up some sheetmetal like that.

I always just rest the torque arm on the tunnel and have never had a problem with it damaging anything.

What I do is place jack stands under the frame of the car, where control arms attach. Then i jack up pumpkin and place jack stands under the tubes on the rear. This takes all of the tension off of the torque arm.
