T-56

Can some one tell me if there are any distinctive marks to identify a T-56 tranny. I found a roadside mom and pop shop who buys the contents of delinquent storage units from auction.. afterwards they try and sell the stuff. I drove by a found a crate, full of tranny dis-assembled(bellhousings, flywheels etc.). It's definately a stick... but how can I tell if it's a t-56??

Look at the following picture:

I think they should all have that sticker and tube, electrical connections, etc. Search around my site there are a few more pics. I'd compare them and if there is a shifter on it, try going through all 6. Reverse is also all the way right and up.

The problem is there are 3 different T56's- Mustang, F-body, Viper. I don't know how to tell them apart. Oh and there is also a sticker on mine that says "USE ATF Dextron II Only", it's on the bottom, near the drain plug.

See if it has 6 gears for one. Only a handful of transmissions do.

It should have one square cover with 4-bolts between the bellhousing flange and the shifter.

The trans case is a three part affair with a back plate, a center housing, and the tailshaft.

Look for torque arm mounting holes too.
