700r4 third and fourth blowout

Third gear has been slipping a small amount when I hit the gas for over a year. Last week it went all together. Reverse first and second all work fine but third pretty much just revs. Of course I cant find out about fourth since I cant get through third. Checked the archives but cant find a definitive answer to this. Is this a common problem, and if so I assume it is a transmission rather than torque converter issue right? I have the 9psi ProCharger kit ready to install.. Don't expect I'll ever put out more than 450hp with a more realistic 400. Transmission shop or is this something small that I can fix myself? (I can turn a wrench in an engine, but auto transmissions blow my mind) Comments or suggestions?

It sounds like you lost the 3-4 clutch. This is a common weak link in the 700r4. You are going to have to rebuild the trans. now. Sorry about you luck. Been there done that, so I feel your pain.

IF your good with tools rebuilding a trans shouldnt be too much of a strech(lots of clutchs and snap rings). The only hard part is keeping everything stacked the way it came out and getting it all in in the right order. Its not to hard to figure out if you do it wrong(clutch packs will have no play or way to much). With good notes it can be done easily.

Since I'm ignorant when it comes to all but the basics of transmissions (It really comes down to the fact that its really cold outside and I'm lazy) I think I'm going to get it rebuilt at a transmission shop. My dad knows one that guarantees their work (and has replaced a tranny for him before for free), I don't know what they would have to say about the supercharger though What should I expect to pay for a rebuild?

Seems to me if its going to cost $1500 for a rebuild I should just buy a pro-built.

try using the 1...2...3...OD shifter settings...this uses an overrun clutch in addition to the forward sprag and clutches to shift...or just use the chart.....

If you mean just manually place it in gear, then I have tried that.. If there's some other method I'm not familiar with let me know. My tranny is on my garage floor now though, since Dana at pro-built is sending my new one this week.
