Can you guys help me switch the trannys between my cars?
I want to put the T-5 from my 89 into my 90 and put my automatic out of the 90 in the 89 for daily use. Heres what I know I need to do:
Cut hole in firewall for clutch cylinder
mount pedals
swap flywheel,housing etc
swap trannies
I noticed the 89 has a mechanical speedo and my 90 has the VSS. Can I put the VSS in the T-5 and will the speedo gears out of my 700 swap to my T-5 so that my speedo will work right?
I will manually lock the TC on the auto so that is not a problem and I know to hook up the back up and neutral saftey wires. Did I miss anything? Will the torque arms mount the same on both?

Use the firewall pad as a template to cut the holes for the clutch pushrod.
Both engines are 1-piece rear main seals, so just swap the flywheel and flexplate. If they are different sizes you will need to swap the starters too.
The crossmember is the same. The torque arm mounts are different. Use the torque arm mount that goes with the trans and it will all bolt up.
Be careful with the wiring for the park/neutral switch. If you screw it up the car will run like crap because of inaccurate information to the computer realted to the VSS.
Not sure about the speedo stuff.

Thanks
Now I need someone to tell me if the little plastic gears will interchange between the T-5 and 700, and also if the electric VSS will slip into the T-5 and vice versa. I did a search and it seems that I will need a VSS from a 90-up T-5 and same for the mechanical cable for the 700. I checked at part stores and all the VSS's are the same for the auto's and T-5's can anyonr help? I guess I could go home and see if my VSS fits into the tail shaft on the T-5.
