Trans Rebuilt, But NO REVERSE!

I finished installing it today.. I go from park to reverse and it Shifts into reverse, i can feel it, but then then engine revs like its in neutral. If i goto drive it goes in fine and goes forward like it should, i have not DROVE it yet because im worried about the reverse problem.

It also wont roll backwards in reverse, while its running. its almost like the parking lock is engaged, exactly like it, except when i shut off the car it WILL roll back in reverse. weird...


It also doesnt rev as easilly in reverse gear as it does in neutral, almost like its trying to go but it cant something is stuck inside.

also fluid level is perfect, and i also noticed that if i put it into reverse, rev the engine, the go back to park its alot harder to put it into park than it should be.

me now what do you suppose the problem could be?

i double checked my shifter linkage, its dead on.

I also did some experimenting, i put the rear up on jackstands and put the car into reverse. the wheels went back like it was GOING into reverse, then locked tight and wouldnt move backwards anymore. i noted my wheels would move if i pushed them, but the driveshaft wouldnt. even in park i could push the wheels back and forth, but the driveshaft wasnt moving at all. is that normal for the rear end?

Ok MORE experimenting.. I put it up on stands and put it into drive, it goes through all 4 gears normally and quickly without fuss.

then i drove it around the block, it was shifting late (probably my TV cable though) but i noticed there was no engine breaking during downshift. otherwise, all the gears were normal.

when i got home i tried reverse again, this time it actually jumped backwards like it was trying to get into reverse. if i gave it gas it would jump back little by little the more gas i gave it. im going to check out the valve body for missing checkballs and such tommarow, both engine breaking and no reverse would be indication of missing checkballs says the book. but it could also be the low-reverse sprag... hrm uh oh.

IDEA PLEASE!

wee it is the low-reverse support retainer ring not seated in the groove letting the roller push against the sun-shell causing a bind in reverse and no allowing the low-reverse support to enable engine breaking. I didnt push the retainer ring completelly into the groove... and i distinctly remember this situation but never fixed it before i installed the sun-shell.

Live and Learn. theres another 25 hours of labor for me.

Im having the same problem in my truck. We just swapped a 350 tpi and 700r4 into my 94 s10 blazer. the fluids are fine. when the truck is off the gound it seems to shift fine and go fine but we drop it and try it and it wont shift in turn wont go. Anyone?
