Posi question

i have an 82 trans am with a posi rear and on of the springs is broken. how hard is it to put a new spring in? can i just leave the spring out?

Transmission: T56, 5-speed, 700R4, C4, T176, semi-auto 2-speed
Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
It isn't working up to its potential without full spring pressure. It could also wear the plate unevenly from the uneven pressure distribution. The springs are a few dollars. I'd just fix it right.
