700r4 valve body question
I have a 91 700r4 that was rebuilt by a shop that is nolonger open. The trans shifts fine manualy, have been running it several years, but in OD or D the shift points are not correct. I have tried many times to set the TV cable, but I dont think that is the problem. Now the question is I have a 88 700r4 that is slipping due to high millage and want to take the valve body out of it and put it in my trans to see if that fixes the trouble I have. I know that there could be many different things that are causing my trans not to shift at the correct time, but since the general opperation of it works, I thaught I should give it a try. Can I simply take one valve body off and swap it for the other without a lot of technical knowledge about the 700r4. Is it something that can be done easily? Thanks

I wouldn't necessarily attack the valve body up front... how exactly is it shifting.. Too late, too early, just at part throttle, only at WOT?? Need more info...

If the shift is normal, but you think it is too late or too early the govenor can be "tuned" to your liking. B&M has a springs and weights kit to do just that. Call summit.

thirdgen88, it shifts to early and soft at part and WOT. shift is also delayed from 2nd to 3rd and the motor reves a little between them. Unless you manualy shift it ,the shifts are to early and sometimes you cant even feel them. Im thinking the tv cable may not be installed correctly. thanks

Sounds like either the geometry is incorrect (tv cable installed incorrectly) or the tv valve spring inside the governor is worn out (common on these transmissions after many thousands of cycles)...
If the tv spring is worn out (compressed too far at rest), it won't provide enough line pressure soon enough... readjusting the tv cable won't help.. Common symptoms would include premature shifting and a flare-up on the 2-3 shift under moderate throttle... yup yup... all adds up.. I'd check it out... I think the trans go shift kit comes with a replacement spring...
