700R4 Tranny dead again...
Well, after fixing my governor (gear was stripped), and repairing the governor cover (it was previously installed incorrectly, by hitting it with a hammer in the center, not around the edges...), the car was finally road-worthy, or so I thought... Now the car cant get out of first again, and feels just like it did when it had the stripped governor gear, so I'm pretty sure its the same problem. I've had it with this thing and I'm ready to just buy a re-build kit, but I think I'm just jumping too fast. Do any of you guys have any idea on what could be causing my tranny to keep leaving me with only first gear? It almost feels as if I rev it up high enough, that it wants to go into second, but cant quite make it in. I think I was too pissed off when this happend that I didnt fully asses the problem, so I cant describe in more detail than that.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Could be an internal problem with the govener like the weights or springs. Or they might just be the wrong ones for the apllication. If your sure you put the tv cable in correctly id look at your govener as the problem before id get the rebuild kit.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out the TV cable (again) and pull out the governor again this weekend, but I have a feeling that I'm going to be taking that sorry POS of a tranny out in the near future

That's what happened when I swapped the new motor into my car. Lost everything except first and reverse.
I think I'm going to have to pull my money out of savings for the hood I was wanting to get a T56...

The output shaft drives the governor directly, there is no plastic drive gear for it, just the gear in the metal of the output shaft.. Doubtful it is damaged...

Well, Mike (1bad91z) and I removed my transmission Saturday night, and I popped the governor cap on Sunday morning. The gear is perfect, no problems at all. What would cause me to only have first gear if the governor is stil good? A tranny tech that Mike talked to said it could be a contaminated valve body (with piece of my old governor gear). Any other possibilities? The tranny felt like it wanted to shift @ about 4500-5000 rpm, but it just couldnt, it just kept "bucking".
