spring issues.
hey guys i have a problem i notice when someone fat gets in my car or i brake hard or go over a bump hard the front of my car starts to make this grinding sound. i had the car up on a hoist today and felt the bottom of my springs, and one of my springs have are cracked right in half at the very bottom were it sits on the metal. i dont no if that is the only problem but that all i could see, would this broke spring be make this noise??
i was reading though this camaro book in a performance shop just to learn about are spring setup and they started explain how u can lower your car by just cutting your spring. so it got me thinking i could fix this broke spring problem and lower my car at the same time for free, but is cutting the stock spings a bad idea?? from what the book said it was fine but it just sound to good to be true? anyone done this? or know about it? does it work good? how does it hold up

Are you sure you didnt feel the end of the spring? I dont think that would make your grinding sound unless your pass. side fender well is rubbing your tire, which in that case it prolly would be your spring. Check inside your fender well and see if theres any noticable marks, tread, rubbing, etc.

With that noise you might want to take a look at ball joints as the culprit.
Cutting springs isn't a good idea. You dont really know how far you will be lowering your car. Heat will also cause your springs rates to change which can cause lots of problems with handling.

how many miles you have on the car? i bet the springs havent been replaced. i think you can get an OEM spring kit from sphon for like 100 bucks. well worth it. the car will ride hella better, and for that price why not? as for the grinding im unsure...im going with the tires hitting the fenders on that one. which can be caused by bad spring/strut or your swaybar linkage is shot or missing

wooooh there i missed the whole cutting the spring chat. DO NOT cut the spring. you will ruin the integrity of the spring. it is designed to work as a unit and you destroy the structure of the unit when cut. you will hear about all these guys on this board cutting the springs because they are too broke to buy a kit or whatever and say they have had it on their cars for years yada yada.... the car will ride like trash and will also weaken the spring (like i have said many times) which could lead to other damage

theres tons of kits out there. i personaly hate lowering the fbody for numorus reasons. i actually lifted my rear up and stuffed 295/50/15 size tires on the back. if your going to lower it, no matter what kit you choose, get the relocation brackets for the trailing arms to gain back your lost angles
