How to firm up the stock auto shifter?

Hey, I got a question for all of you guys. Searched up a bit, but most of the shifter related questions I found were about aftermarket ones. I'm interested in fixing up my stock shifter.

Its been 15 years and the shifter doesn't feel very firm when shifting gears. There is quite a bit of play when its in gear. I don't want to lose the stock appearance inside the car, but would like the shifter to be more firm.

Anyone have any tips to firm the shifter up?

New shifter cable from the dealer did wonders for mine.

I suppose I can find one, but do you have a part # off hand? If not don't worry, I can figure it out.

I just went to the dealer. It was a bit over $50 a year ago.

Never thought to try the chain stores.

Yeah, one of my other questions was how the aftermarket knock-offs were concerned.

I bought a non-GM aftermarket TV cable once. It was a piece of crap, about 2" longer than needed. I ended up brining it back and ordering a dealer part for $34.
