The driven gear is easy - remove cable, remove clamp bolt, pull gear housing, put new gear in housing & reverse disassembly. Some gears use a different housing than others, so you need to know which housing the gear you're going to use needs.

The drive gear is a little more involved. You need to remove the tailshaft housing, remove a clip, and slide the gear off the output shaft.

On a '66 TH400, it's even more complicated, because the drive gear is pressed onto the output shaft...

I'm on here quite a bit. Where are you from? I have been known to go to Second Creek, but this year I'm going to try to get up to Bandimere to get some hard numbers.

Yes, I have done it all. Speedo gears on both manuals and autos with both a VSS and cable driven. Yours is cable obviously. On the T-5 it is easier if you take the tranny out. You have to remove the tail shaft of the ranny. You will be basically taking it apart in half and all the oil will come out when you do this. Then the little plastic gear is just on the output shaft held by a little metal clip. There is a metal ring around the end of the output shaft where the driveshft is, it is kind of hard to take off but it will come off. The easiest way to get both the ring and the gear off is to use a big open end wrench or an adjustable wrench against the sides of the gear then lightly tap on the wrench and "press" it off. The same to install it. Then just swap the little plastic gear that goes into the cable housing thing that the cable screws into.

Oops, I missed the "T5" part for the drive gear...

Yep. First street North of 52. You familiar with the area? I actually grew up in Erie. Lived in Thornton for a while. Back to Erie. Then Longmont and now Frederick. The next stop is going to be Vegas or Northern Arizona.

I feel better now.

Add about 7.25% to the ET other people get with a car similar to yours as a baseline for what to expect the first time you take your car to Bandimere. It's that altitude thing.
