T-5 makes a sorta grinding sound when in 2nd but pedal is to the floor.
When I came to a stop on saturday after a 2 hour trip from the dragstrip, there was this slight grinding sound coming from the tranny. The shifter was in 2nd gear when I pushed the clutch in to stop. Then with the clutch pedal down, there was a slight grinding coming from the car. I could feel it through the shifter and the clutch pedal so I put it into neutral but it was still there for a second then when I let out the clutch it went away. I noticed it did this occasionally when the tranny was in my 89 RS after a new stock clutch and TO bearing and it did it when I first put in the Centerforce clutch and new Centerforce TO bearing for like the first 100 miles I drove it.
When the tranny is in gear and the clutch engaged, as in the car is moving, it never does it. And it doesn't do it when the car is cold or hardly ever, only when the car has been running for a long time. Also when I am racing it and shifting at 6000+ it works flawlessly, no noise. My Dad thinks it is the TO bearing, but I just put it in and it is the Centerforce one with like 500 miles on it. Could it just be the bearing is getting hot after 2 hours and making the noise? Like I said the tranny DOES NOT make ANY noises when it is in gear and it's never hard to shift whether or not the noise is happening. Any thoughts?? Thanks

It could be a failing synchro. Next time it does it try to double clutch it and see if you hear or feel it. If you don't feel it than it is most likely a bad synchro. However, I am no tranny expert but I had a similar problem with my T5 ahile back and that was the culprit.

Ok heres what it did last night. I was driving in second gear going slow and had to stop so I pushed in the clutch. While the clutch was down it started to make the noise.(keep in mind that at this point the shifter is "clicked" into second still) Then I sort of pumped/moved the pedal up and down a little and it went away. I am thinking that maybe the hydraulic system has an air bubble in it and sometimes the clutch doesn't fully disengage, and I am trying to force it into gear with no clutch.
BTW: If the syncros were going wouldn't it grind when I try to go INTO second, instead of already being in second and then it does it?
