Is it worth buying a rebuild kit of ebay if so which one, my tranny guy said he will install anything that I buy. What else should I get to go along with it. As servos and such.

This goes into a 90 camaro with 3:42s so anything will make a differance.

 

know one really know do they, I am in college now and I was thinking about taking a class on trannys at a near by tech school is it worth going to school to work on a 700 or sould I just get a book. What is a good book to start of with?

 

700R4 would take about 6-8 hours for someone new to the auto-tranny. The amount of difficulty and time to rebuild really depends mostly on a persons mechanical inclination. I have a video somewhere that I bought when I rebuilt mine about a year ago. The video will take you through it step by step. If you would like, I'll try to find a link to the site where I got my video. It's the best $20 I ever spent. To rebuild it myself saved me between $375 and upwards of $1200, which is what the local shops in my area charge (if you take it out yourself). If they take it out, add another $250-$400. I spent about $225 ("Deluxe Rebuild Kit", Video, Universal Spring Compressor)

Take the class if you can. I have taken several tech certificate classes just to learn for fun. You get to use all the special transmission rebuilding tools and expensive equipment that the school provides for you to use. You will also have a teacher to show your work to and to ask questions.
