Hot Shifter Bar

I have a v8 5 speed and when i'm driving for a while the shifter gets kinda hot, and hurts to touch. Is this normal? and if it isnt what can i do to fix it?

The metal part or my shifter does gets warm arfter a while but not hot to where I cannot even touch it. Of course the **** doesn't since it is plastic.
