T5 Questions. I need help ASAP!!!

Hey guys,
I just bought a 1984 Z28 with a 305 and a T5. The transmission is bad. I can get a T5 from a '93 V6 for a very good price. The only difference that I can see is the bolt pattern where the tranny bolts to the bell housing. Can I use a V8 bell housing from a '93 and still be able to use my starter, slave cylinder, clutch fork, cross member, driveshaft, etc.?

Thanks,

Adam

No. A 93 V8 would have had a T-56.... completely different.

There are other differences as well; for example, teh 6-cyl trans will not fit a V8 clutch.

There's a reason you can get it "for a very good price". It's because it isn't good for much. Supply greatly exceeds demand.

What's the matter with the trans that's in the car?

From what you have said and what the 'V6' tranny looks like, I don't think the guy who is selling it knows WTF he has. The input shaft fits the clutch, but it isn't a T-56, and it also doesn't fit the T5 bell housing. I think I have located another transmission that is correct for the car, so hopefully this won't even be an issue after this evening.

Thanks for the quick response!

What's the matter with the car, that makes you think it needs a transmission? You might end up going through all this grief, and put it all back together, and it still be screwed up, depending on what's really wrong with it.

It was the two mangled gears that I found inside the tranny that tipped me off.

That would do it....

Just making sure it wasn't something like grinding into all gears, or stuff like that, that isn't caused by a bad trans.
